UFC Fight Night Results
UFC Fight Night 222 was an exciting event, and the main event made it clear who should be next in line for a UFC heavyweight title shot. Sergei Pavlovich made a statement when he faced off against Curtis Blaydes at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The fight aired on ESPN+, and Pavlovich didn't waste any time making his mark. At 3:08 of the first round, Pavlovich was declared the winner by the referee after landing several punches on Blaydes and securing his victory.
The two fighters exchanged hard punches early on, and both landed some good shots as they moved around the octagon. Pavlovich kept pushing forward, while Blaydes stayed on the outside. It was clear that either man could have been taken down at any moment, and Blaydes was knocked off his feet momentarily. Although he managed to gather himself and tried to take the fight to the ground, Pavlovich wasn't having it and easily defended the takedown attempt.
Pavlovich continued to pile on the pressure and landed more punches that rocked Blaydes. Before Blaydes could figure out a solution, he was hit with more punches that dropped him to the mat. The referee stepped in to prevent further damage, and Pavlovich celebrated his victory.
With this win, Pavlovich extends his current winning streak to five, and he has been a wrecking machine in the octagon. He has set a new UFC record with six-straight opening-round knockout finishes against Marcelo Golm, Maurice Greene, Shamil Abdurakhimov, Derrick Lewis, Tai Tuivasa, and now Curtis Blaydes.
After the fight, Pavlovich made his case for a shot at Jon Jones’ heavyweight title. He said during his post-fight interview in the octagon with Paul Felder, “Hopefully this time I’ll get a bonus again, and hey, where’s my belt?”
On the other side, Blaydes' three-fight winning streak has come to an end, and he has lost his hopes for a title shot.
Overall, UFC Fight Night 222 was a thrilling event, and Pavlovich's impressive win has made him a rising star in the world of combat sports.
